Stian Michael Kristoffersen
Stian graduated in 2010 from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology with a Masters degree in underwater acoustics. His thesis was in collaboration with Kongsberg Maritime and covered signal processing for the HiPAP underwater positioning and communication system.
Following his studies, Stian has risen from his first position as a field service engineer, through product R&D to leading Kongsberg Maritime’s USV product team. As a part of this role, he was responsible for Kongsberg’s effort to support GEBCO-Nippon Foundation’s participation in the Shell Ocean Discovery X-Prize. His core responsibilities focus on the liaison with FFI (Norwegian Defence Research Establishment) for the continued development of the K-MATE USV control engine.
Within Kongsberg Maritime, Stian also participates in projects ranging from collaborative over-the-horizon multi-mission survey capabilities for USV and AUV systems and is a part of the larger MASS development program.
Stian will provide insight from AUV and USV operations along with experience from the ongoing Yara Birkeland development.
On his free time, Stian sails as a volunteer with the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue.
