National Maritime HSSMI sponsor Innovation Showcase

The prestigious Innovations Showcase, which offers the latest in equipment, services, projects and vessels has a new sponsor, National Maritime HSSMI.

The Seawork feature gives exhibitors the chance to demonstrate the results of their hard work in research and development during the past year, with every entry in the Innovations Showcase being offered the chance to win the overall 'Spirit of Innovation' trophy, as well as awards in individual categories. An Award and Certificate of Commendation will be presented to the winner of each category.

National Maritime is the UK’s maritime business engagement group for industries influenced by the sea and waterways and HSSMI is a manufacturing innovation institute. Together they support UK maritime business through funding, expertise and talent.

National Maritime’s purpose is to serve and support the sectors micro, small and medium-sized business to help them grow and increase business. It promotes the UK as a world class location central to the country’s global maritime aspirations and works with those industries ambitious to drive trade, productivity and economic growth.

As an engineering consultancy, HSSMI focus on the advancement of sustainable manufacturing and supply chains by enabling the scale-up and introduction of innovative solutions and technologies.

The programmes to be promoted at Seawork by National Maritime HSSMI are

Consortex – led by Peter Green, Chief Executive at National Maritime

The Consortex project aims to form export consortia consisting of European interregional SMEs who specialise in the manufacture of certain built-in packages for marine vessels and structures (bridge, engine room, accommodation and deck) including offshore vessels, marine power plants, cruise ships, scientific vessels and naval.  The project’s world market report identifies market opportunities across ship building; merchant, military, cruise ships, supply chains, specialisation and high tech niche opportunities, offshore platforms, renewable energy, environmental regulation and compliance.

HyDIME – led by Tristan Coats, Hydrogen Propulsion Engineer at HSSMI

Hydrogen Diesel Injection in a Marine Environment (HyDIME) is a twelve-month long project that aims to make waves in the marine industry by proving the safe integration and use of hydrogen on vessels. One of HyDIME’s goals is the design and physical integration of a hydrogen injection system on a commercial passenger and vehicle ferry which will be the first of its kind worldwide. The hydrogen used in the HyDIME project will be cleanly produced from renewable energy.

Intelligent Naval 4.0 (IN40)  – led by Brais Carballedo, Virtual Reality and Process Simulation Technical Lead at HSSMI

The Intelligent Naval 4.0 (IN40) project aims to improve the competitiveness of naval sector companies through the adaptation of the traditional productive model towards the Industry 4.0, guaranteeing the sector’s endurance in an increasingly demanding market where technological innovation is a key factor of strategic advantage.
