HEVIMA project is Hybrid Conference keynote
Dennis Doerffel of REAPsystems will deliver the keynote address at the Future of Hybrid Propulsion at this year’s Seawork Commercial Marine Conference.
The HEVIMA (Hybrid Electrical Vessel propulsion with Integrated Motor Assist) project, led by REAPsystems and supported by Innovate UK, is set to deliver an innovative modular parallel hybrid marine power system that surpasses the efficiency and emission levels of existing hybrid systems.
Offering significant savings in fuel consumption, engine power rating, weight, emissions, noise and vibrations, modularity is a key component in this project to reduce the engineering and implementation cost of hybrid systems in ships. The system is particularly relevant in the small commercial vessel market for craft which generally have low average loads, but also require extended periods of high power.
Doerffel founded REAPsystems Ltd in 2003. Fascinated by modern battery technology, its practical applications and challenges, and holding a Dipl.-Ing. Degree in Communications Electronics from the University of Hamburg and a PhD in “Testing and Characterisation of Large High-Energy Lithium-Ion Batteries for Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles” from the University of Southampton, Doerffel is described as an authentic, enthusiastic and visionary individual who believes "there is always a better way".
Previously an officer in the German Forces for 12 years, where he led, organised and trained repair and maintenance teams, Doerffel was later responsible for the software maintenance of several weapons systems. He now leads the way in hybrid electric vehicles, applications for large lithium-ion batteries and systems engineering - always looking to challenge the status quo.
The Future of Hybrid conference takes place on the afternoon of Wednesday 12 June 2019 at Seawork www.seawork.com
