ULTRA X Test bed at Seawork
The new ULTRA X anchor has been launched at Seawork 2019 by Landau UK Commercial and is the only anchor specifically developed for use in the commercial marine sector.
Landau UK Commercial designed a test bed to demonstrate to visitors how well the anchor performs.
Completely handmade from the highest grade 316 Swedish stainless (318 Duplex), the ULTRA X anchor is designed for commercial excellence and is another innovative product from the business which was established in 2014, from parent company Landau UK and has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Ben Metcalfe, chief executive of Landau UK Commercial explains: “The anchor is stainless steel so comes with a lifetime warranty. We’ve designed it so that 60% of the weight is in its tip, which being curved keeps digging down and will always set to its own length.”
Landau UK Commercial only took delivery of their demonstration test bed the day before Seawork so this was the very first opportunity for customers and visitors to get a feel for the features and benefits of the new anchor. As Metcalfe continues: “Everyone loves to play in a sandpit and we’ve already had a lot of people giving it a go! We see most of our commercial customers here at Seawork and it’s undoubtedly the best exhibition for this.”
The ULTRA X demonstrates why a correct weight distribution and design are so important when setting and recovering the anchor. In fact, invert any ULTRA anchor and it will instantly recover itself to the attack position. The ULTRA X is self-righting, with performance achieved with the innovative patented features including the curved lead filled tip for instant penetration, a hollow shank for optimum weight distribution, concaved base surfaces for maximum holding power and large side wing plates to avoid release during changing wind or tidal conditions.
The anchors range from 5 – 360kg and are suitable for vessels from 5 – 50m LOA.
