4,500 litres of water per minute from each of three monitors, twin engines with a power rating of 242kW (325hp) at 2100 rpm, and a top speed of 32kts; those are the numbers for the new fire-fighting vessel ‘Barracuda’ recently delivered to firefighting supplier Angloco, following successful sea trials.

The high performance, first-in-class fire-fighting vessel is the result of a three-way partnership between Aluminium Marine Consultants Ltd (AMC), naval architect Walker Marine Design and firefighting supplier Angloco Limited.  E.P. Barrus Ltd supplied the John Deere 6090SFM85 inboard engines which are M1 duty rated – the heaviest duty available and able to operate at full wide-open throttle 24 hours a day.

Built at AMC’s Shipyard in Cowes, Isle of Wight UK, ‘Barracuda’ is the first build of a new generation of fire-fighting vessels which has been specifically designed and built to undertake multiple roles in order to meet the risks and hazards of modern-day marine fire-fighting.

“’Barracuda’ has been an interesting and exciting vessel to work with,” commented Sam Pearson, Sales Engineer for John Deere Marine engines at E. P. Barrus Ltd. “Although we have worked on fire-fighting vessels before, this is a first for us in the UK, so it was brilliant to be part of the project and carry out successful sea trials with the Aluminium Marine Consultants team.”

New owner Angloco is currently celebrating its milestone 50th anniversary of designing, manufacturing and supplying special purpose fire-fighting and rescue vehicles and equipment around the globe.
