New tugs for Indonesia
Marine engineering specialist OSD-IMT is to supply a minimum of three shallow-draft tugs to operate along the Barito river in the South Kalimantan area of Indonesia.
OSD-IMT announced the new contract for at least three OSD-IMT7402 shallow draft tugs for PT Patria Maritim Perkasa (subsidiary of PT United Tractors Pandu Engineering) shipyard in Batam, Indonesia.
Equipped to tow 300-foot barges and assist them to berth and unberth along the Barito river, each 23-metre LOA OSD-IMT7402 tug will be fitted with an aft towing hook and a push bow plus an integrated structural triple vertical D-fender. The design draft will be two metres as during the dry season the upstream part of the river has a water depth of only around 2.5 to three metres.
The 18 tonnes bollard pull, shallow draft, conventional tugs will have two main diesel engines connected to drive shafts and conventional fixed propellers with high efficiency nozzles, giving the vessels an ahead bollard pull of 18 tonnes and a free running speed of around 10 knots. Accommodation for ten persons will be arranged in two quadruple and two single cabins.
Operated by Cikarang based PT Patria Maritime Lines, Indonesian flagged and classed by Bureau Veritas, the tugs will be built by PT Patria Maritim Perkasa shipyard with the first due for delivery in March 2020.
