Message to the Government from Wight Shipyard Co
In a stellar line up of new launches during Seawork 2019, Wight Shipyard Co (WSC) introduced the Chasewell 9m Hybrid PilotCraft, designed to respond to stricter environmental regulations and promising to set new industry standards in the patrol and pilot sectors.
Intended to help operators - including port and river authorities, Police, MOD and Royal Navy - meet new pollution standards, the WSC vessel has been designed by naval architect Chartwell Marine, and is the first in the new Chasewell range of pilot and patrol boats, first unveiled at Seawork 2018.
With port environments working to heightened environmental regulations, users now require vessels that can operate and switch easily between variable speeds; operating at low speed when environmental consideration is needed, in heavily polluted areas and high speed when required.
Peter Morton, CEO of Wight Shipyard Co commented: “The government wants us to cut emissions, so authorities need to take control and start supporting the range of boats which help do this, as well as supporting the British marine industry.
“Seawork is definitely the workboat commercial exhibition and there’s nowhere better. It’s absolutely the right place to be. We’ve been really encouraged by the interest here and what we’re doing. Building greener vessels has been an integral focus for some time now so moving into hybrid options is the obvious next step forward.”
