Hydrosphere link with French supplier
Leading UK supplier of aids to navigation, Hydrosphere prides itself on partnering with the right suppliers to achieve high-quality products.
To help with this process the company recently sent four members of the Hydrosphere team, including two new recruits Gareth and Elvedi, to French company, Mobilis who produce buoys in their factory in Aix-en-Provence, France.
Hydrosphere choose Mobilis as a supplier of buoys for a number of reasons. The first is use of high-quality materials. The company uses as standard a polyethylene which is rated UV22 structural and ultraviolet stabilized. This gives the buoy floats a fifteen-year colour life in UK latitudes. This is important under IALA regulations, as buoys have to keep their colour and are only allowed to fade by a small amount before they must be replaced.
Mobilis uses rota-moulding machines which are only used to make floats for the buoys, unlike other suppliers who use them to create a whole host of other plastic items. Mobilis also has the benefit of its own aluminium factory and paint shop on site.
A highlight of the visit was assembling a buoy on site. The two new members of Hydrosphere staff completed a JET 2500 buoy in less than half an hour, a testament to the efficiency of Mobilis production and its team.
