Past winner success, Duodrivetrain™
The winner of the Propulsion Category and overall “Spirit of Innovation” Award at Seawork in 2016 has attracted significant funding since the success.
Duodrivetrain™ is an innovative concept substantially engineered in corrosion resistant stainless steels which is destined for conventional shaft-driven boats under 28m in length. Without special hull design, this class of vessel has not previously been able to access the energy saving properties of Contra-rotation propulsion.
A new configuration makes the installation in a new vessel possible without any major redesign or even change of layout so keeping the desired shaft-driven configuration. The product can even be retrofitted taking over the zone of the existing shaft drive propulsion and in most cases will result in space improvements on the vessel in question.
In 2018 Duodrive Limited achieved DfT backing under their Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant competition and was the only one of the twelve projects invited to display at their Transport-Technology Innovation Day Showcase held at Westminster Hall. The funding was used primarily to advance the novel torque monitoring design incorporated into the Duodrivetrain™.
Support from DfT and KTN, has led to Duodrive securing further funding from Innovate UK and the Science and Technology Facilities Council to generate “an algorithmic tool to accurately predict performance and aid selection of contra-rotating propeller sets”.
Duodrive is now seeking first-adopters and investors to launch their prototype ‘data generating’ test-bed platform vessel.
