Award winner, MICAD looks forward to further success
The European Commercial Marine Award’s Spirit of Innovations vessel design and construction category winner, MICAD of Italy, has high hopes for further success following its impressive attendance at Seawork.
The MODCAT project has been founded by the SME Instrument, a H2020 EU program tool which aims at supporting projects with a European dimension that lead to major changes in how business (product, processes, services, marketing etc.) is done. It will assist innovative SMEs to shape new markets, create growth, and achieve high return on investment.
The MODCAT project aims to develop common technical modules for catamaran workboats to share investments, tools and technologies among SMEs boat builders. This transfers the naval industry’s modular platform process which was initially developed in the automotive sector, to produce, with a single set of modular moulds, an entire family of workboat catamarans. This allows for changes in dimension, dynamics characteristics and onboard equipment, which therefore will fulfil the clients’ customisation needs.
Seawork International saw 41 award entry submissions comprising of new craft, equipment and services in the Innovations Showcase, with the vessel design and construction category being hotly contested.
MICAD’s CEO, Amedeo Migal comments on his company’s success, “We are delighted to be awarded the Spirit of Innovation Award, a significant endorsement for the pursuance of the project.”
