Cheetah Marine join forces with Teledyne Reson
Cheetah Marine has always been well recognised throughout the marine industry for providing one off solutions for customers aboard the spacious and stable Cheetah range. In a further development to satisfy demands from the growing hydrographic survey market Cheetah Marine have joined forces with Teledyne Reson for production of a fully integrated, turnkey hydrographic survey catamaran.
The first of these 7.9m Cheetahs has built for ABP will be exhibited at Seawork in July. The model features Reson’s 7125 Multibeam Echo Sounder housed in Cheetah’s patented hydropod system.
Teledyne Reson is a leading producer of high-quality, advanced multibeam sonar-systems, sensors, transducers, hydrophones and survey software. A collaborate build programme brings together Cheetahs expertise from 20 years building for the hydrographic survey market with Reson’s high end survey equipment. The vessel is road towable and can be launched and recovered using Cheetahs triple axle trailer. The vessels will operate in hydrographic, offshore, dredging, security and marine-research areas.
This whole package twinned with the Cheetah’s shallow draught of 0.5m allows complex surveys to be carried out in rapid flow shallow water zones with minimal crew. The moonpool and hydropod ensures high accuracy of the fixing position meaning that the system does not require recalibration after transit and is easily transported between survey sites.
In a further development project, Cheetah Marine are working closely with a charter company in the Algarve to build an 11.2m with twin Honda 250hp specifically for dolphin watching and eco trips. More details to follow on this shortly.
Sean Strevens, Cheetah designer said “We rely on SeaWork for making important contacts to secure orders in the future. It is a genuinely international show with a high calibre of attendees which suits our worldwide market. With customers from as far afield as Singapore, Russia and Canada and it is great to be on a Cheetah talking to clients from all over the world.”
Cheetah’s quality of build and efficiency of survey hours has increased the company’s reputation steadily over the last 20 years. Recent deliveries for a variety of survey applications include Cheetah placements in the Congo, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Ireland and Canada with further vessels currently in build. Since production commenced in 1990, four hundred and fifty boats have been delivered worldwide.
