The purpose of the initiative was to bring key decision makers from major overseas companies into Seawork to meet with suppliers in order to develop commercial relationships. David Nickolls, International Trade Advisor (Marine) for UKTI comments on the 'Meet the Buyer' initiative at Seawork 2007:

‘It’s not only a matter of selling abroad, UKTI also makes introductions between UK companies looking for overseas investors. Seawork proved to be the ideal environment and our first involvement with the show is part of a 3 year programme.’ He added: ‘We are very encouraged by the initial results. Some companies who were re-active to overseas businesses are now pro-active. Our service is ideal for emerging companies who want to trade overseas. And we provide positive post-show follow through with advice through our ‘Passport to Export scheme’.

Buyers from Portugal, Spain, New Zealand, China, Canada, Taiwan, Turkey, Italy and India travelled to Seawork to meet 34 suppliers for 20 minute meetings over three days. There were a total of 110 face-to-face meetings.

Paul Gullet, Wave International, met buyers from China, Spain, Taiwan and Canada. Commenting on the meetings he said:

‘The one to one meetings are excellent – they are very focused with no distractions, just straight business. Establishing new business overseas is very expensive but with the help of UKTI Wave International has been able to expand into new export areas’

More than 20 international buyers are expected to sign up for Seawork 2008. This represents an outstanding and exclusive opportunity for companies who are looking to develop their export or supply chain.

Up to 500 briefing slots will be available to exhibitors. If this applies to you, waste no more time - contact the Seawork Team now for details about stand availability. Remember, small business enterprise sites are available from only £600+VAT!
