News about Seawork 2006

MoD at Seawork

For the first time the UK Ministry of Defence Integrated Project Team (IPT) which is responsible for the procurement of all military boats and associated equipment for the UK Armed Forces, (Boats and Sea Survival – BASS), was present on the DMA stand at Seawork 2006.

Exhibitors were asked if they wished to have an appointment with the BASS team. 26 preregistered with the MoD and these were then divided into those who gave a short presentation on their stand or on the water, and others who had a short discussion with the BASS team on the DMA stand. The MoD is keen on innovation, and several bright ideas were picked up, which they are pursuing with the individual companies.

As a result of the ideas and contacts made by the BASS team, they are determined next year to attend in greater numbers, and to use Seawork as their one big annual opportunity to meet with the industry. They will also be spreading the word to other IPT`s who cover supporting products such as ropes, diving, clothing, communications etc. The aim for 2007 is to make Seawork a one stop shop with the MoD for the full range of exhibiting companies who may have a defence application within their products.
