News about Seawork 2006

MET Office Forecast is Bright

Lloyd’s Maritime Intelligence Unit, in partnership with the UK Met Office, is launching a new Forecasting and Risk Assessment capability to the World’s Port Community at Seawork 2006 International.

This unique collaboration combines the International expertise and heritage of both organisations.

The Met Office and Lloyds MIU will be on Stand 169 at the heart of Seawork 2006. You can  talk to them, along with representatives from the  UK Harbour Masters Association, SeaZone, the National Centre for Ocean Forecasting (NCOF) and HR Wallingford, to find out how you can become part of  this key World Ports project.

Under the working title of weatherPILOT, the Met Office will deliver an integrated information capability which combines vessel movements and logistics through Lloyd’s Marine Intelligence Unit SeaSearcher TM with the addition of appropriate Met Office ‘gold standard’  global weather, environment and climate information.

By bringing together Port Management experience and tailored local weather forecasts for key Ports around the Globe, including ancillary information such as relevant environmental and climatological data, the new Met Office initiative will help you plan, risk assess and manage your port facilities.

In addition to the support of day to day decision making – this service will also strengthen casualty reporting and contingency planning within Ports and their approaches and, in time, will evolve to offer chartered features. The Met Office will host a breakfast briefing for the UKHMA on their stand on Wednesday 14 June and will be previewing the new weather system, for the benefit of visitors throughout the duration of the event.
