New Vessels, New Products, New Technologies at the UK’s Premier Commercial Marine Exhibition

Naval victory for H4 Marine A visit to the H4 Marine stand at Seawork 2005 by engineers from the Warship Support Agency (WSA) culminated 18 months later in an order for SH25 QuicKutter rope cutters of a new design incorporating surfacehardened blades.

H4 Marine will be exhibiting  the SH25 and other products  on Stand Q6. In addition  to the Royal Navy, H4 are  suppliers to the RNLI and  VT Halmatic.

Aye, eye!

A comprehensive range of Prescription and Plano eyewear will be featured at Seawork by Alphatech International Ltd. The prescription safety spectacles now include an insert that can be fitted inside a wrap-around sports-style frame with clear, grey and orange lenses. Also featured is a new Plano spectacle with a ‘d seg’ bifocal giving reading powers of +1.5, +2.0 and +2.5. This means someone who only requires reading correction in their safety eyewear can buy ‘off the shelf’ spectacles at a much reduced price.

Seawork Lights Up

New exhibitors Julian McDermott Corp and their European distributors WKM Cornelisse Trading BV will display their full line of navigation lights with a focus on batteryoperated LED lights, with New Vessels, New Products, New Technologies at and without solar panels, widely used in the tug and workboat industry. Fibre  optic tools and replacement parts for American diesel engines will also be on the stand.

Professional Diving Academy and Hydrospace Sign Up for DiveWork! The Professional Diving Academy are exhibiting within DiveWork for the first time. They offer HSE-approved commercial diver training courses including Professional Scuba, Commercial Surface Supply (CSS) and Wet Bell. Hydrospace manufacture and supply diving and life support equipment and are developing the next generation of diving apparatus for professional and military divers, including diver thermal systems, breathing apparatus, communications and safety equipment. Hydrospace are Official Distributors for Kirby Morgan Diving Systems International.

CC Marine represent major players CC Marine will be representing some major international companies on stand 195. This includes Van Voorden Repair, a specialist propeller repair company offering maintenance and repair for all seagoing vessels; MME Engineering who manufacture and supply anodes for all workboats, pontoons and commercial vessels; Merus GmbH, who specialise in the removal of rust and scale and Vulcan Engineering, who manufacturer mechanical seals for marine pumps.

Voller Energy will be showcasing their environmentally-friendly fuel cell generator. This is installed onboard the company’s Beneteau 411, Emerald, which will be fitted with an array of electronic systems to highlight the full capabilities of the generator. Visit Emerald on berth A28.

Kort Vector Thruster Makes Debut The new Kort Vector Thruster will be displayed for the very first time at Seawork. A tank with a working model will be featured on the stand to demonstrate the potential of this product for either bow or stern thruster applications or the option of main or auxiliary propulsion. Kort also has agencies for Micad Marine, HRP Thruster Systems, Weka Box coolers, IHC Largersmit, Fernstrum Grid coolers, Machine Support Vibracon engine mount systems and Deno Air compressors.

Moulded Foams now Flexible

Moulded Foams (formerly Linpac Moulded Foams) will be showing their unique polyethylene foam stringers used in the construction of GRP hulls. Leading hull-moulders have found this material shows big savings in time and cost and provides a much cleaner and healthier workplace. Duro Marine will demonstrate their new HORIZON straight line bridge window wiper on stand 72 at Seawork. Its coupled power drive provides smoother and vibration-free operation during the worst conditions.

French ship building represented at Seawork The Chantier Naval Ernest Sibiril shipyard is located in Carantec on the north  coast of Brittany near Brest. It has a strong order book, with contracts for pilot boats and safety vessels destined for service in ports across the world. “We specialise in different materials and modern methods such as CAD design and vacuum infusion,” says Georges Sibiril. “We build craft from 10m to 30m and are looking to expand our export business through meeting new customers at Seawork.”

Swedish Aluminium Workboats Debut at Seawork 2007

Through their agents, Wave Seven Marine Ltd, Anytec Marine AB will introduce their range of high speed aluminium boats to the UK and Irish market at Seawork. The Swedish company also manufactures the Sublift semi-submersible boat handling system.  A Model 622SP, equipped with a 150hp Yamaha outboard, will be available for trials at Seawork. The 6.22m craft is designed as a rugged high speed workboat, particularly suitable for work in harbours, marinas or fast offshore applications such as fish farms. It will be on sale at Seawork at a special introductory price, which excludes the usual ‘factory to UK’ delivery charge.

   New Macduff Tug for Peterhead

Macduff Ship Design will exhibit a manned scale model of the new 13m twin screw tug it has designed for Peterhead Port Authority. Building at Macduff Shipyard, the vessel will be the first in the world to be fitted with the novel Mampaey Dynamic Oval Towing System. Completion is scheduled for next year.

PLA shows low-wash cat On pontoon berth 46, the Port of London Authority will feature the 10m Richmond. Richmond is a low-wash patrol vessel, launched in April 2007 and the culmination of a four year R&D programme, which originated from discussions at Seawork 2002.

Apeks/Aqua-Lung dive into Seawork!

The Apeks/Aqua-Lung stand in the DiveWork Pavilion features the Genesis II and Proteus commercial diving helmets from Submarine Systems Ltd (UK) both of which incorporate Apeks 2nd stage regulators as standard. The helmets will also be demonstrated in the quayside dive tank.

Ikaros flies in

Ikaros Marine are first-timers on the Seawork RibTrail, bringing a 17 year record of building 5-14m RIBs for the commercial, military and rescue markets. Based in the UK, they claim to achieve a balance between speed, safety and manoeuvrability and offer high level customisation.

New Coastal and Ports Surveying Conference

A new one-day conference will be held on Thursday 14 June. Supported by the UK Hydrographic Society, the Society for Underwater Technology and the UK Harbour Masters Association, the seminar focuses upon the new challenges of surveying around ports, harbours and coastlines and discusses the latest technology and case studies. Papers include: • Civil Hydrography programme for the UK • How ports and coastal authorities can propose areas for survey • High accuracy surveys of quay walls to assess underwater damage and condition • Cost-effective surveying and dredging around UK ports and coastlines • The difficulties of very shallow water navigation and silt in suspension • Multi-beam surveying of the Port of the London – recent experiences • New technologies – Underwater Vehicles and Techniques for Shallow Water Surveying. Cat Sandwich?

Baltec Werft of Lübeck, specialise in working with high-tech, lightweight, sandwich-build technology. Their Baltic range of catamarans is purpose-built for use as pilot boats, patrol and survey boats and fast ferries. The BALTEC P200 promises improved seakeeping due to long hulls, low fuel consumption and safe pilot transfer at high speeds. A 31.5m service catamaran for the offshore wind power industry is their current new project.
