Pleasure craft of less than 13.7 metres in length are not covered by any statutory requirements as far as life-saving or fire fighting equipment is concerned. At 13.7 metres in length and over they are obliged to comply with UK regulations. The Maritime & Coastguard Agency can give appropriate guidance. MED generally covers all marine safety equipment on European Union (including UK) vessels that come under the SOLAS Convention.

An overview of the maritime secuirty concerns around the coast and ports of the United Kingdom, illustrating where there are opportunities for innovation from industry to help. ACC Steve Watts has the national ACPO lead on Maritime operations, security and planning.

MOD Boat Capability and Procurement Requirements
Warrant Officer Danny Maxwell, Mr Andrew Avison, MoD (IPT Leader, BASS IPT) and Mr Alan Veitch, MoD (BASS IPT Sea Survival).
The Team Leader for BASS IPT (Boats and Sea Survival Integrated Project Team), Mr Andrew Avison; the Sea Survival Equipment Manager, Mr Alan Veitch; and the DPA's subject matter expert on Lifesaving, Seamanship and Boats, Warrant Officer Danny Maxwell, will give a joint 30 minute presentation on the Ministry of Defences current and future procurement of new Life-Saving Apparatus and Boats under 24 metres and how they are used. There will be time for questions afterwards.
