David Sawkins is employed by Orkney Islands Council as the Ferry Services Manager for Orkney Ferries, this being the provider of inter island ferry services for Orkney.  Previously to starting this post in 2005, he has worked for an environmental / engineering consultancy in England, as a Divisional Manager for Marine Operations with Shetland Islands Council and as Commercial Docks Maintenance Engineer for Portsmouth city Council. He is an Honours Degree qualified engineer and manager with a Merchant Navy background with Shell Tankers (UK) Ltd.
