| Description: | The Port of London Authority, which celebrates its Centenary this year, is responsible for facilitating safety of navigation and conservancy of the tidal Thames and supporting the Port of London. The PLAs Marine Services and Hydrographic Departments provide a broad range of services, available at attractive rates including, at Gravesend, a 70 tonne boat-lift, a 40 tonne jetty crane and quayside available for maintenance of vessels up to 26m. Marine Services offer a 24-hour salvage and diving capability for obstruction clearance, moorings maintenance and other activity. The Hydrographic service operates from three specialised launches, available to provide pre- & post-dredge and project surveys for marine developers. "Verifier", "Yantlet" and "Galloper" are all fitted with multi-beam sonar systems, for high-definition display of seabed data. New this year, the PLA is demonstrating its Bridge Simulator, which is available for training of pilots and ships' crews, as well as in support of civil engineering projects on the Thames. |
